Title

Unidentified early Toledo Jewish couple

Description

A black and white formal portrait of an unidentified late 19th century Jewish couple. The man is wearing a hat that indicates he may be one of Toledo's earliest rabbis. Records show that Jews settled in Toledo, Ohio as early as 1857, having come north from Cincinnati. The earliest Toledo synagogue, B'nai Israel, was incorporated in 1866.
